All cables stretch under an applied load. There are two type of stretch- constructional and elastic.
In most cases, cables with correct design and specifications, stretch is not a factor in the function of the assembly.
Constructional Stretch, cables stretch in the small clearances between wires and strands.
Elastic stretch, is the actual elongation of the individual wires in a cable. Part of the system cable design process would be to order pre-stretched cables to eliminate constructional stretch. The other part would be to calculate the elastic stretch force not to exceed the yield point of the specified cable based on diameter and applied load.
Simple answer? if the cable is designed correctly for the application? stretching is not a factor in cable function!
